The opening for 'The Rising' may have been grand (it better be, with Aamir returning after four years) and the film might even go on to fare reasonably well, but the word-of-mouth in India has been extremely mixed.
A section of the credible (not PR) press (that is taken seriously by the people) comprising essentially the two morning and two evening newspapers in Mumbai have not particularly cared for the film, just like some of the leading foreign publications.
