While 'Black' may have shown the Indian audience something radically new and path breaking, can it be Bollywood's entry to next year's Oscar? Maybe not. For one, most of it is in English, and not in a 'foreign language', and while the film is a sure novelty for the Indian masses, such fare is not unusual to the Western art house. Besides, it is based on a well-known Hollywood flick, 'The Miracle Worker'.

The White Academy member smiles at foreign language films with a strong political, cultural and ethnic ethos. Stand up 'Swades'!
