Bride and Prejudice
There are many literary adaptations being made into Bollywood films these days. For example, there's Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" revised as 'Bride and Prejudice', and Shakespeare's "Macbeth" was redone as 'Maqbool'. In the works are Nikhil Advani and Gurinder Chadha's version of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women", and Vishal Bhardwaj's tentatively titled "The Blue Umbrella" or "Chatri Chor", based on a story by Ruskin Bond, "The Blue Umbrella".

Speaking of Vishal Bhardwaj, he was planning to start another literary adaptation, "Timbuktu", in August, starring Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi. But that has been put on the back burner for the time being, as he wants to rework the script. This left both stars beside themselves when he broke the news. In fact, Bhardwaj commented, "Aishwarya's secretary is shell-shocked. He has never come across a director who has purposely let her dates go by!"

And while reworking that script, Vishal has even bigger plans in the making. Commenting on how it is to be Bollywood's costliest film, he says, "It's a very complicated script. It's a very difficult plot about the relationship between the real and magical world. It'll be the costliest film ever made in this country, even costlier than Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas'. Way to go Vishal! We hope this music composer-turned-film director knows what he's doing in this respect. We can only watch and see!
