'Sheen' was screened at the special showing on Thursday the 8th April 2004 at 10.30 AM in Sale de Cinema in Palais des Nations at the 60th session of the U.N. COMMISSION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN GENEVA.
'Sheen' deals with the personal tragedy of Kashmiri pandits who were driven out from their homeland at the very infancy of insurgency in J and K. This film uses actual historical events from the last decade to capture the pain sufferings of people like Pandit Amarnath played by the veteran Raj Babbar. The other cast includes Sheen, Tarun Arora, and Anoop Soni, Samay Pandit and Shaarika Pandit and lots of other theatre actors.
The film is ready for release in India on the 7th of May 2004. The unique screening in Geneva was a specially edited subtitled version of the film used just for the occasion.
'Sheen' talks about the ruthlessness used against of victims of terrorism. It is dedicated to the victims of terrorism all over the world. This is the first time that a film has been shown on the victims of terrorism, the Kashmiri pundits, in the world forum.
The audience, consisting of delegates from all over the world, were taken aback and also shocked by the visual description portrayed in 'Sheen'. They were quite saddened by the events surrounding the forced eviction of Kashmiri pandits. The audience gave a standing ovation and thanked Ashok Pandit for making such a film in the interest of humanity and mankind.
Here is the content of the speech given:
I thank Shri Subroto Roy, Sahara Chairman and Managing Worker of Sahara India Pariwaar for backing me on this film. It was his vision and guts needed to present this film in the interest of humanity and mankind.
My heart bleeds for those people now in Kashmir who are suffering due to ongoing terrorism in the valley. I identify with them with full honesty. I appeal to all those people to come out on the streets and denounce terrorism wholeheartedly, only then will terrorism end.
I appeal to Mr. George Bush President of the United States of America and President Musharraf to invite me to screen this film for them in their respective countries, so that they also come to know what has happened to the miniscule minority of Kashmiri pandits in Kashmir. Mr.Bush on one hand cannot talk about smoking out global terrorism and on the other hand fund Pakistan, which is a country that shelters terrorists. This hypocrisy is the reason why terrorism all over the world is at peak.
The process of an India- Pakistan friendship is a very big farce and will not last for long, probably only until the elections in India and the test series between India and Pakistan get over.
I appeal to the World Community on this forum to give Kashmiri pandits the status of internally displaced people and give them all those facilities, which they are supposed to get. I appeal to all those terrorists groups all over the world to lay down their arms and let people live in peace. Let peace be the real slogan. |
