Syrupy sweet love duet 'Is Pal' has once again the matchless pair of Sonu and Shreya, but they are let down by a very heard before tune. In fact, its a mix and match of many a beautiful romantic numbers like, 'Wada Raha' (Khiladi) and 'Bol Na Halke Halke' (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom). Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, whose mesmerizing vocals have many admirers, gets to render 'O Re Piya', a trademark Rahat composition, that will be loved by the die-hard romantics. Soft musical arrangements with instruments like the flute, rubab and beads provide a perfect ambience. As is always the case, the highlight of the song is Rahat's alaaps, which are delightful, and can be said to be in the league of his legendary uncle, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Though filmy, Jaideep's lyrics evoke the feeling of romance which is required in this number. 'Soniye Mil Ja' commences with Madhuri's magical vocals/voice (last heard in Devdas) "Patang sang uddh gaya bachpan, Jhanak jhanak man, Dagar suhani re, Ladakpan aaya ab to kasak masak kar kya mastani re, Are chal jawaani ki hoti hai yahi nishani re, Are chal aayee jawaani re". After this, the song takes the shape of a full masti, fun-filled number, that is qawwali in parts. The tune is again folk inspired, so it appears rustic in its totality, with references to khurja ki khurchan and mathura ke pede (sweet dishes made from milk and sold in melas). Lyrics by Piyush Mishra have strong local (North Indian, Western Uttar Pradesh to be precise) flavour and are humorous too. Just like the song "Show Me Your Jalwa", this too is a situational number that will be fully understood once the movie releases. |
