Vipul Shah and Akshay Kumar's association goes way back to Vipul's debut movie 'Aankhein', a reasonable success at the box office, followed by 'Waqt-Race Against Time'. However, this time Vipul is back with just his favourite Akshay, and without the able support of the megastar Amitabh Bachchan, (who could not be a part of this movie due to date problems).
Both the earlier movies had some decent music but nothing that could be remembered for a long time (barring the 'Holi' track from 'Waqt-Race Against Time') . So in order to amend this, Vipul attempts a love-cum-wedding NRI story that he has chosen the in form Himesh and the evergreen genius Javed Akhtar, who incidentally have come together for the first time in this album. It promises to be a 'listeners' delight'.
Some good guitar strumming, along with the typical Himesh crooning and the exclamation 'Chak De Phatte' sets the mood for 'Chakna Chakna'. Unlike the usual Hindi-Punjabi pop, this composition stands out, as its not so boisterous. Its USP is the fusion of the western arrangements with the Indian ones are just outstanding. Moreover, the lyrics are simple, easy-to-understand Punjabi-Hindi with the usual English sprinkling, is suited to the mood and theme of the movie, as it is based (partly) in Punjab and partly in the U.K. Himesh surprises with his excellent Punjabi rendition as he goes "Tainu main dil da haal batawaan, Tainu main apni Heer banawaan, Tainu main door kahin le jawaan." Excellent composition first up, no wonder it has already climbed up the charts.
'Chakna Chakna Remix' by Akbar Sami is the same stuff that remixes are made of. The faster pace dilutes the classy nature of the original.
