After 'Zameen', Rohit Shetty is back with 'Golmaal-Fun Unlimited', with male bonding once again as the central theme but with emphasis on comedy. It is obvious, as Neeraj Vohra has written the script for the film.
Though 'Zameen' had decent music by Himesh, it does not linger in the public's memory, as the movie failed to make the mark. This time, Rohit has opted for the more upscale 'Vishal-Shekhar', who have ushered in a new era in Hindi music with their hip-hop yet classy music. So let us checkout the result.
Fun and frolic is the theme in the title track 'Golmaal', sung by Anushka Manchandani, one of the lead ex-members of the all-girl pop group 'Viva'. The lazy yet deadly rhythm, superb musical arrangements, combined with some very good singing holds the listeners' interest. Vishal appears briefly with his much loved rap 'n' reggae. The only deterrent is the use of the word "Golmaal" as this song is more about love than anything else, and so doesn't quite fit in.
The 'Golmaal (Remix)' is crisper, as Akbar Sami has used wider stereophonic effects, yet the pace remains the same. A well-done remix job.
The next track, yet again titled 'Golmaal' (K.K.-Shaan-Vishal ) has been erroneously referred to as "Daal Mein Kaala Ya Kaale Mein Daal" (borrowing from the lyrics) in most reviews. The track commences with Vishal's usual rap 'n' reggae, accompanied by bagpipes. It is a situational number with the hit duo of Shaan and K. K. in full 'dhamaal' mood. The lyrics are apt, keeping the theme/title in mind, the word 'Golmaal' is justified (here unlike the previous track).
