Ace comedy director Priyadarshan has never depended on the 'hit music formula' for making his films succeed at the box-office and therefore his movies, apart from 'Garam Masala', 'Kyon Ki' and to an extent 'Virasat' couldn't boast of having very good music. But of course, the last time Himesh-Sameer and Priyadarshan came together for Salman-Kareena starrer 'Kyon Ki' the result {musically} was sheer magic and its melodious music is fresh in the public memory and sells even today. So, here is hoping for a repeat of the splendid performance by the same team and more so because Himesh is once again with Shahid-Kareena, after the recent success of '36 China Town'.
The album is off to a flying start with the absolutely bewitching composition 'Shabe Firaq Hai', which sweeps one off the feet. Trademark Himesh Reshammiya's synthesized (ala "Zara Jhoom Jhoom") organ sounds, accompanied by the violin (the simple type), electronic drums and plates, sets the pace for this very pacy and super rhythmic love ballad. Himesh is delightful, both as a composer and as a singer. Tulsi Kumar though is squeaky and seems to have gone the Anuradha Paudwal 'mincey' way yet again. Sameer's lyrics are the highlight of this excellent track (being used as a promotional song; directed by Ken Ghosh). Sample a few lines - "Shabe firaq hai, Teri yaad saath hai, Is dil mein jaan mein basi tu hai, Aa re, Aa re '.
'Shabe Firaq- Remix' is the usual routine job by Akbar Sami. Since the original was excellent and pacy, there was absolutely no need for a remix.
