Ashok Pandit's 'Sheen' has something special about it. This is the first time a film has focused on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits as opposed to the Kashmiri Militants; as well as the first time that music directors Nadeem and Shravan have come up with their own style to interpret the folk dimensions of Kashmiri music. Not to mention, that lyricist Sameer too puts his heart into penning some of the most hard-hitting and heart wrenching lyrics that reflect upon the situation in Kashmir at present.

The opening romantic song 'Yeh To Kashmir Hai' sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik is a good start, and leads you to the catchy Sonu Nigam and Sapna Mukherji duet 'O Sanam Kuja Beri'; although Sonu goes overboard with his vocals in this one. The next musical number is called 'Tum Dua Karo', a soft sentimental number where Kumar Sanu is at his inimitable best and to which Nirja Pandit's voice gives a rhythmic folk touch.

The well-orchestrated 'Sheen' theme featuring Tauseef Akhtar is followed by 'Main Ladki Kashmir Ki', in which Kavita Krishnamurthy gives a flawless performance, and helps depict the struggle and sufferings of the victims who are traumatized by the evil act of terrorism in the north of out country. 'Aao Jannat Mein' by Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Mohd. Aziz, Shreya Ghosal, and Nirja Pandit is a song which most people will have varying opinions about. However, Kumar Sanu's well-controlled vocals and the talented Mohd. Aziz are able to carry the song along well.

Absolutely and undoubtedly the highlight of the album is a delightful 'Sufiana' song sung by Saeed, Farid and Amin Sabri. The song has a beautiful tempo to it as well as some very polished Urdu couplets, penned by lyricist Syeed Ali Miya Baqai.

All in all, due to its sheer poetic intensity and beautifully rhythmic music, 'Sheen' can prove to be a delight for Kashmiri folk music lovers as well as the rest of us.
