'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara' is a film not about the ideology of the father of the nation, Mohandas K Gandhi but rather of one retired, middle class man who has a symbolic connection with him. It is a story of a man trapped - a prisoner within his own mind due to dementia and the loving daughter, who tries desperately to save him through her determination in finding a cure for him and supporting her family financially at the same time.
Professor Uttam Chaudhary (Anupam Kher) is a retired Hindi teacher who lives with his daughter (Urmila Matondkar) and young son in the city of Mumbai. He is suffering from what is laughingly called 'old son'- brief periods of forgetfulness, blanks in memory. Little does anyone realize that the problems are much deeper and just the beginning of a journey that will end in a man becoming a prisoner of his own mind. As his memories start to fade, a childhood trauma surfaces – a memory of being accused of murdering Gandhi. The more of his life that is lost, due to the debilitating disease, the stronger this one memory becomes.
Will the love, commitment and faith of one extraordinary woman be enough to hold a family together and save her father from drowning within himself and being lost to them forever? Be at the theaters starting on September 30 th to find out.
