Television director Aanand Rai makes his feature film debut with this movie. And yes…this film is based on Strangers on a Train, though with a few modifications and good ones at that!
Rahul (Jimmy Shergill), a failed writer and Sanjiv Rai, a management expert, meet each other in the first class of a train traveling between Southampton and London. They start talking to each other and soon start pouring out their intimate stories. They realize that they both are leading an unhappy married life, though for different reasons. Soon a deal is stuck between the two, to bump off each other's wife.
The film is pretty engaging and in fact the last 30 minutes of the film is very good. This film could easily be considered to be the best performance of Jimmy Shergill's career. Kay Kay Menon is excellent as always. Nandana Sen's performance as Jimmy's wife is superlative. Sonali Kulkarni has very little to do in this film.
Cinematography by Manoj Gupta is very good and so is Sanjay Sankla's editing. Director Aanand Rai makes a decent directorial debut and manages to extract fine performances from his principal performers. Though the script is not exactly flawless and some questions do remain unanswered, the film is still a decent watch.
