If you are expecting a 'Shrek' or 'Happy Feet', let's get real. This is nowhere even close! But this film is definitely a step taken by India towards creating homegrown 3D animated content.

'Bal Ganesh' is all about the birth of Lord Ganesha and his exploits, both mischievous as well as courageous. The film is informative as well as entertaining.

The character of Bal Ganesh is very adorable and so is his friend and steed Mooshik the mouse! The first half is engrossing but the second half is a bit disjointed and fails to retain your attention. The locations depicted are very good. Apart from a couple of songs the rest are nothing to hum about! The background score of the film is horrible.

The quality of animation is quite satisfactory, if one doesn't compare it with the works of Pixar and DreamWorks, who have been in this business for decades. All the characters are more or less expressionless and aren't able to display any emotions. Also, the texturing is non-existent. Be it the characters, objects or topography, all lack texture.

But all these drawbacks fortunately don't take away much of the story telling!

All in all, it is definitely an enjoyable watch, especially for the kids.

**1/2 (Two and Half stars)
