In 1993, Fazil directed the Malayalam film 'Manichithrathazu'. It starred Mohanlal and it was a runaway hit. It was remade in Kannada, as 'Aptamitra' and featured Vishnu Vardhan. History repeated itself and it was a huge hit. In 2005, the P. Vasu directed Tamil version 'Chandramukhi' featuring Rajnikanth, also proved to be a blockbuster. Now, it has been remade in Hindi by "Remake Raja" - Priyadarshan, as 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa', and it seems like history has become bored with predictability and will do just the opposite!
After a long time, Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja) has returned from America, back to his native place. With him is also is newlywed wife Avni (Vidya Balan). Much against the wishes of his family members, he insists on staying at the ancestral palace, which is said to be haunted. Strange things start happening and Siddharth calls his friend, Aditya (Akshay Kumar), who is an acclaimed psychiatrist. What Aditya stumbles upon forms the rest of the plot.
