When you are Barjatya and making a film that has stars from Roshan, Bachchan and Kapoor families in your film, everyone will expect something extraordinary from your film. And when you have three good movies behind you, such expectations are bound to escalate. Sooraj Barjatya’s film Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, however, fails to fulfill wishes of viewers. From the moment you sink in your seat, and as soon as 15 minutes are passed, you understand that things would not move as far as anticipated.
Sundar Nagar is a town located somewhere in Uttar Pradesh, but all its scenic beauties are the courtesy of New Zealand. There lives a book publisher, who is hardly seen publishing books, Mr. Satya Prakash (Pankaj Kapoor) and his annoying wife Sushila (Himani Shivpuri). Their daughter Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor) is studying in Sophia College, which can give complex even to a Mumbai or Delhi college. Their married daughter Roopa (Tanaaz Currim) one day sends a marriage proposal for Sanjana all the way from the US, via an email and minus photograph of the guy. The man in question is Prem.
Soon, Prem (Hrithik Roshan) arrives in Sundar Nagar and within no time, wins hearts of everyone including a dog and a parrot. What’s more, Sanjana’s all friends, who are more like ramp-walkers than simple girls, too start liking him. Things move fast and after few interactions during college functions and cycling and picnicking and all, Sanjana falls in love with this guy. And when everything looks fine and done at the parents’ end, Roopa shoots another email, Prem moved to Japan instead of coming to Sundar Nagar, so, he’s now expected to come there in a couple of days.
Gosh! Then who’s this Prem who is making love to the girl. Well, he’s working in Prem’s (Abhishek Bachchan) company. So, real Prem arrives. He is shy and introvert, simple and straight. But Sanjana makes him comfortable in her company. And soon, this Prem too falls in love. Now, who will get the girl and whose prem is she finally? There are no prizes to guess the answer.
