So what if the lead couple keeps on kissing each other for as much as 17 times? So what if all the songs are sung by legend Asha Bhosle? Khwahish, Govind Menon’s official debut (he directed Danger but wasn’t credited for his work) as a director is a total disappointment. In an attempt to give everything in a single film, he ends up delivering a below par movie.

Amar (Himanshu Malik) and Lekha (Mallika Sherawat) meet in a store and fall in love while fighting with each other on everything from colors and cuisines. But soon, they are enlightened to understand that the cupid has struck between them. But Lekha is a poor girl while Amar is the son of a business tycoon. Also, their age is tender because they still have lots of academic goals to achieve. Amar is always unhappy with his father Prithviraj (Shivaji Satam) as he feels the latter never understands what he wants. Lekha on the other hand is too friendly with his father and even calls him with his first name, Ulhas (Mahmood Babai).

So, Amar and Lekha get married while Prithviraj decides to oust Amar from his property as a successor. They get a small room in a chawl-type building in Pune and start their new life. Things never move smoothly as they either have financial crisis or find it difficult to understand the other’s view or, in the later part, have no time to spend together. And before things can be worked out by having some parties with old friends and becoming parents, doctor says Lekha has leukemia…

Khwahish is a movie where too many experiments have spoiled the show. Firstly, the makers have projected it as a film with lots of flesh on the show along with a great honeymoon sequence to enjoy. There’s nothing like that in this movie. Secondly, the director has tried to make the film for masses whereas in reality, he falls short of imagination. Take the very first scene where the guy and girl meet in a cloth store. There fight over kurta and pajama is stretch so much that the stubborn staff of the store calls up the owner at house just to ask him whether he can sell only pajama or not. The problem here is that most scenes, which could have flared up the screen with just and fair presentation, are extended too much.
