Even the use of special effects has got limitations. This is for the first time that an Indian movie is loaded with special effects of more than an hour but its use never reaches to interesting heights. Mostly, they are used to show battles between Jhamunda and Aditya. And when used somewhere else, they fail to leave an impact. Songs of this film are good when you listen to them at home, but in the film, they are not used effectively. The title song starring Deepnita is more like an item number added in kids’ film. Why? Maybe because she was starred in iDream’s earlier film 16 December? Strangely, Aditya speaks Mumbai’s roadside language that may not be liked by the viewers globally. And he even speaks indirect expletives and cheap lines in between. Not done, Mr. Ranade.
The only saving grace the film has is its climax and some of the finer moments that are created due to special effects. Otherwise, the film remains an average fare on the technical and performance side. Jaaved Jaffrey looks really lost in Shundi with no purpose. He never tries to find his way back to Mumbai. Joy Fernandes hams too much while Gulshan Grover fails to deliver his substance in a poorly conceived role. However, Manav Kaul is good and he deserves a clap or two. Musically, as we have said above, the songs are just about okay.
There’s no need to see this film because it has created lots of curiosities since long. But at the same time, one can watch this film for children, as at least they won’t be able to know weak points of the narrative and get more involved in tricky scenes and nothing else. J2M2 could have been a far better entertainer if the director had vision to craft a good storyline without succumbing to commercial demands of movies. Wanna watch it? |
