Why the directors of Bollywood are still trying to redo the magic of love triangles every now and then? Andaaz by Raj Kanwar, by all standard, is a poor show of poor story and poor making. It’s a pity that even in this age, our filmmakers are finding it hard to make reasonable movies, forget sensible cinema.

Andaaz begins in the style of films we had seen and loved during the decades of eighties and nineties. The opening remembers us the films like Lawaaris and Yaarana (of Amitabh Bachchan) where kids open the show. Raj (Akshay Kumar) and Kajal (Lara Dutta) are friends. So are their bhai and bhabhi and parents (Gajendra Chauhan, Navni Parihar, Pankaj Dhir and Supriya Karnik) who are employed in quantity by Dehradun’s Springdale College. Even a servant G.I. Joe (Johny Lever) seems to be a part time college canteen boy. Kajal is just like a goddess for hopeless kids as she encourages Raj to leave behind his minor leg injury and start skating at once.

Cut to their college days. Raj (Akshay Kumar, can you imagine?) is a college student and so is Kajal (Lara Dutta). He has now turned a sports champ and together they love and praise each other on the dais of the college. Showing just a football match was not enough so the next comes a drama competition where Raj turns hero at a go. And though Kajal is his best buddy, Raj leaves for air force training even without letting her know about his plans in advance. Kajal says goodbye like a good girl and promises to wait for his comeback.

Before Raj comes back and proposes the girl, his lady luck runs short as Kajal comes across one Karan (Aman Verma) and he proposes her. She waits till Raj is back, asks his opinion and when he says okie, you can go ahead; she gets ready to marry Karan. Raj, who behaves like a stupid and doesn’t bother to express his feelings right on time, speaks about his love when the marriage is done. Courtesy: his bhabhi. So, the old folks are separated and the new life is welcomed. Raj leaves for Europe for further training and there comes a girl Jia (Priyanka Chopra) whose character is nothing less than a puzzle.
