As a writer, Honey Irani has done a great job for years. With Armaan, she proves that moviemaking in India is a changing art. An absolutely polished film Armaan has many praiseworthy points.
The story of Armaan has some similarities to the story of 1963 classic Dil Ek Mandir. But it is not a copy of that film for sure. Dr. Siddharth Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan) has devoted his life to a hospital in village Chandipur and now at old age, he wishes to make it an ultramodern treatment place for all. His adopted son Dr. Aakash (Anil Kapoor) is like friend to him and together they both hope to achieve the goal the senior Sinha has set in front of his eyes. In a routine process of recruitment, Dr. Neha Mathur (Gracy Singh) gets a job in the hospital and soon, she and Aakash fall in love.
Things move fine until one day when one Sonia Kapoor (Preity Zinta) enters the village and sets her eyes on Aakash. She is the daughter of billionaire business tycoon Gulshan Kapoor (Randhir Kapoor). Sonia has always got what she has asked for and this has made her arrogant and selfish kind of person. Though her bright eyes realized that Aakash and Neha are in love, she decides to snatch the man she has started liking. And things get easier for her when her father steps in with a deal for Dr. Sinha.
To make true his daughter’s dream true, Kapoor offers any kind of money to Dr. Sinha on the condition that he would marry his son to Sonia. Dr. Sinha declines to do so and before Aakash is made aware of this development, Dr. Sinha passes away after he takes too much physical strain to save a child hit by a vehicle. When Aakash is informed about the deal of Kapoor, he decides to sacrifice his love to fulfill his father’s dream of modernizing the hospital. So, Sonia finally gets her man, Aakash gets funds to upgrade the hospital and Neha is left alone at the mercy of her fate and friends like Dr. Sanjay (Aamir Bashir).
Even after the marriage, Sonia’s suspicious mind keeps on believing that Aakash is still carrying on with Neha, both emotionally and physically. It was not true but Aakash’s all efforts to make Sonia understand the truth go effortless until one day when her behavior results in deadly outcomes for all…
