"This is the land where Shammi Kapoor used to dance" This very statement by Jimmy Shergill, playing Army Captain Aman sums up the changed state of the once beautiful valley that is constantly under the attack of jihads, bullets and bombs in the current scenario. A decent debut effort by director Shoojit Sircar brings alive each and every frame of the movie with his great visual prowess. 'Yahaan' doesn't pretend to answer any questions or come up with a solution for half-a-century old problem. Instead, it sticks to the basic story of two hearts falling in love, the subtle romance that builds up, the ugly situation that threatens to pull them apart and the subsequent reunion where love wins over terror.
Captain Aman is a young recruit in Rashtriya Rifles who does get impatient when nothing 'happens' despite spending more than a week in the valley. But while he dreams of getting into some action on the field, he also doesn't think twice before asking his friendly neighbors [who stay in a house next to his post] for a cup of tea on a freezing night.
