A Still from 'D' |
Now for the story. It is the entry of a lower middle class man, Deshu, into the underworld. He enters the world of crime and slowly rises into a position of power. Fortunately there is no unnecessary glamorization of the underworld. It's more like the young guy looking at it as a convenient career option. So you have killings after killings till you get bored and wait for the interval. What a relief when it does happen!
Post interval there are a couple of scenes that leave you wondering as to the next course of action but the climax is predictable. The Chunkey Pandey-Isha Koppikar- Sushant Singh sequence is brilliant. Also another sequence where an attempt is made on Deshu's life at his girlfriend's (Rukshar) house is good. The killings too are shot in a stylized way. Nothing crude or gory about them. Randeep settling the score with his enemies is again brilliant. Excellent cinematography and background score.
The 'Khudko Maar Daala' track reminds one of 'Goli Maar Bheje Mein' from 'Satya. The dialogues have the typical 'bhai' touch, so essential in a film like that. A surprise package of the film is Chunkey Pandey. He makes a fantastic comeback! Probably people will take him more seriously now. Of the rest, Sushant Singh and Yashpal Sharma are good. The girls, Rukhsaar and Ishaa Khoppikar, don't get much scope in this male-dominated film but neither are they wasted. Overall not really recommended especially if you are bored of the 'bhai' flicks. This film offers nothing new but hey, don't take our word for it, watch it and be your own critic.
