Ram Gopal Varma's 'D' stands for Déjà vu. After having watched 'Satya', and 'Company', one thought one had seen it all, as far as the underworld was concerned. So a third film of a similar type gives the 'been-there-done-that' feel'. So this one is quite a disappointment. We hope this marks the end of Ram Gopal Varma's sequels. Oh by the way, he always promoted this film as a prequel to 'Company' (even though he claimed it was not promoted as such in his latest interview on Bollyvista). From the look of it, it seems more like a sequel!
The film is uni-dimensional and does not give the main protagonist, Deshu (Randeep Hooda,) much scope for acting or dialogue delivery. But this does not take away the fact that he's got the style. He is required to underplay and speak in monosyllables probably every 15 minutes, and he does it well! All credit to him, considering it's only his second film (his previous one was 'Monsoon Wedding' in which he played Naseeruddin Shah and Lillette Dubey's son).
Ditto for debutante director Vishram Sawant. He has handled the subject and the actors well. What's gone against the film is its done-to-death subject.
