It has been proved time and again that the script is the lifeline of any film. A film with a weak and faulty script is bound to tumble under its own weight and Dil Ka Rishta does have a faulty script. Vrinda Rai, mother of Aishwarya Rai, has penned the script of Dil Ka Rishta and one would have expected her to do a better job.
Director Naresh Malhotra should be given full marks for trying to salvage the film but he could do only so much with a half-baked script. Malhotra who has such action oriented films as Achanak, Kranti to his credit shows his flair for light scenes, which is evident in the first half. However as an editor he could have done a better job. The film drags at places and chopping of some scenes would have helped the film gain some pace.
Ashok Mehta's cinematography is worth mentioning. Naeem Shah's dialogues are OK.
Nadeem-Shravan's music is average. Though two songs 'Haye Dil' and 'Saajan Saajan' made it to various chartbusters, the rest of the tracks fall flat on ears.
Aishwarya Rai has put in a sincere performance and as usual scores high in the looks department. Arjun Rampal does a fine job. Arjun has made a habit of playing the redemptive hero. He did so in his first two films Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat and Moksha. There's no doubt that he's improving as an actor. And the much talked about jodi of Arjun - Ash does look good on screen. Priyanshu looks comfortable in the film and does a good job. Raakhee and Paresh Rawal, as Ash's mother and Arjun's father respectively, do justice to their roles, though Rawal is largely wasted.
All in all, Dil Ka Rishta is a week fare and it's very unlikely that pre-release hype of the film will translate into swollen coffers for its distributors. |
