Director Prawaal Raman's wacky sense of humour in 'Darna Mana Hain' was great but when he takes one of his short stories from the film and stretches it into a 2 ˝ hour long film, then it's just too much! That's what 'Gayab' is all about. Those who have watched his debut, 'Darna Mana Hain', will remember the story featuring Ishaa Koppikar and Aftab Shivdasani in which the latter attains supernatural powers that enable him to immobilize people.
Vishnu Prasad (Tusshar Kapoor) is a loser in life. We are talking about the film. A loser all the way, he looks it too. The problem is he looks the same in real life too so one can't give him much credit for getting under the skin of the character. Coming back to Vishnu Prasad, things always go wrong for him as he lacks self-confidence and the right attitude in life. To add to his cup of woes, he has a nagging mother (Rasika Joshi) who also has his timid father (Raghuveer Yadav) petrified. Vishnu's so-called friends are no help either. So he is all alone in this world.
But he has loved and idolized a girl ever since he was a kid. She is the 'mere saamnewali khidki' girl, who unfortunately does not even know of his existence. This sounds worse than unrequited love. To make matters worse, she has a good looking boyfriend making our already tormented Vishnu even more depressed.
Now who is the girl? She is Mohini (Antara Mali). One look at her and you wonder if Vishnu is such a loser in life to be besotted by a bad looker like her. And if the maker of 'Gayab' believes that her gym toned body will woo audiences into the theatre, then he is highly mistaken. The audience has already had an over dose of hot bods and faces.
