The tagline of Ushakiron Movies' Tujhe Meri Kasam is - It's not a love story - and that's a lie! Director K. Vijaya Bhaskar's Tujhe Meri Kasam marks the debut of Maharastra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh's son Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza in a film which is definitely a love story aimed at today's youth.
Rishi (Ritesh Deshmukh) and Anju (Genelia) are the best of buddies and they also happen to be neighbors. Both of them were born on the same day, grew up together, went to the same school, college etc but they aren't in love at all. So when Akash (Raja), a class mate falls in love with Anju none of them find it taking a toll on their relationship. Then Akash and Anju go to Bangalore for a cultural festival as representatives of their college.
During the week Rishi realizes that he loves his best friend Anju, but he wonders that if he told her about his feelings their friendship would be ruined. On the other hand Akash proposes to Anju and she agrees but he has problem accepting Anju's friendship with Rishi. Torn between the two Anju soon realizes that she loves Rishi and not Akash. Her feelings are further strengthened when she realizes that she would be unable to stay away from Rishi forever. She decides to break her engagement and tells Rishi that she loves him.
Tujhe Meri Kasam is a remake of the biggest Telugu blockbuster of 2000, Nuvve Kavali, which, in turn, was an adaptation of the Malayalam hit, Niram. The first half of the film is filled with comical antics and the second half focuses on the matters of the heart. Because the story and it's outcome is predictable the movie drags in places. The music gives relief especially Azaadi Hain Humko Pyaari, the title track and Chhoti Chhoti Khushiyaan. On the performance front both the newcomers have done quite well. Ritesh Deshmukh needs to improve his dialogue delivery but on the whole he performed well and looked confident throughout the movie. Genelia looked cute and her performance was a natural. Amongst character artists, Shakti Kapoor and Anuradha Patel stand out.
