The film is divided into three chapters, each chapter a story about each of them. This is the drawback of the film. The audience fails to connect with the protagonists because of the number of characters that form part of the three men's lives. It is too much to handle in one film. As expected none of the chapters make an impact and the film fails.
The Abhishek and Vivek chapters, particularly the former's, has some interesting moments but Ajay's chapter is quite grim.
Had it not been for Ajay's easy and natural handling of the sequences this one would have fallen flat. But one can confidently say that he has not given this film his all.
The Abhishek-Rani, and Ajay-Esha romance looks real and convincing while the Kareena-Vivek romance looks very fake and contrived.
Performance wise, Abhishek is the best of the lot. Right from his makeup to his clothes and body language he looks every bit the ruffian that he is portraying. Rani is good but looks bland in her middle class get up. Kareena looks good most of the times although she has hardly used any makeup. What a relief! She has finally gone in for a different look. Esha Deol is a real delight and suits her part well. Her impish looks and smile add to her character. Looking at this girl makes one feel that there is still so much untapped potential lying within. Om Puri is superb as usual. Vijay Raaz is wasted again.
The songs, particularly, 'Fanaa', which is also well shot, are good. The action and cinematography also require a mention. But on the whole, this film will surely not appeal to the classes or masses.
