In 'The making of Haan... Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya' shown on TV networks, all the lead satrs of HMBPK - Karisma, Abhishek and Akshay - emphasized only on one thing that HMBPK is not another love triangle movie - it's DIFFERENT! Well... I beg to differ! The movie is a complete let down!
Shiv Kapoor (Abhishek Bachchan) and Pooja (Karisma Kapoor) meet at a job interview. Both have applied for the executive manager's post. Pooja cons Shiv into thinking that she is the boss' daughter. Shiv falls for it and leaves after giving her his resume. Pooja lands the job.
Shiv follows her all over Delhi, urging her to charm her 'father' into giving him a job. And then he spots an advertisement placed by the same company for general manager. He gets the job.
He realises Pooja had been playing him along. What does he do? He only asks her to marry him. (What the..!!)
All is well, till one day, Shiv loses all that due to a thoughtless night of passion that ruins his perfect life. Things turn sour when Abhishek gets stranded on a giant wheel due to power failure and returns home the next morning. Pooja accuses him of adultery and a rift gets created between them. Situations only worsen again after he spends a night with Simone Singh due to a landslide. Pooja leaves him, and goes her own way.
Raj Malhotra (Akshay Kumar), a movie star, enters the scene and hires Pooja as his secretary. The lonesome celebrity thirsts for love and companionship and in no time, Raj falls in love with her.
One of the shoots requires them to go to Naini Hills. And guess what? The manager of their hotel is none other than Shiv.
So who gets her? The lonesome, handsome, rich Raj or Shiv, the only man who still makes Pooja's heart beat faster?
Don't know if this one needs guessing.
It has been a long time since Karisma delivered a hit, though her performances have won critical acclaim (Fiza, Zubeidaa, Ek Rishtaa). But her performance in Haan... Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya leaves much to be desired.
Abhishek has turned in a sincere performance. But he really must change his wardrobe. Strange, in an office where everyone is wearing a tie, the general manager walks in, in a denim jacket and polo neck.
Akshay Kumar, in his brief role, tries his best to act like a movie star. Ironic that in a role that should come naturally to him, he disappoints.
Mohnish Behl, as Pooja's brother, hams. Raj's three assistants, Kadar Khan, Shakti Kapoor and Himani Shivpuri jar till you can't take it anymore. All of them are loud, over-friendly and loving. You wonder why.
Dharamesh Darshan was simply unable to come up with anything new in this love triangle, which has been repeated many times from Sangam to Saajan.
To its credit, the film is fast-paced. W. B Rao’s cinematography captures Switzerland beautifully. Nadeem Shravan’s music is okay and the title track is good.
Final verdict - watch it if you have nothing better to do! |
