Saawan Kumar's DIL PARDESI HO GAYAA looks at the sensitive Indo-Pak relations and the conflict amidst a budding romance. But the way he goes about hammering the point - including making Ashutosh Rana sing an interminable song about how Indians are so good and want to hug the Pakistanis to their bosom is unbearable.
It is primarily a love story (minus the cheap titillations) between an Indian boy and a Pakistani girl. An Indian army officer [Ashutosh Rana] is kidnapped by terrorists and taken to Pakistan. The officer's younger brother Sunny [Kapil Jhaveri] crosses the border and lands in Pakistan to rescue him where he meets a Pakistani beauty, Rukhsar [Saloni Aswani]. Love blossoms between the two. He forgets his mission and starts running around trees and singing songs with his ladylove. Slowly he reveals his identity and motive to Rukhsar, which shocks her. Rukhsar's father [Amrish Puri], a man of principles and morals, is a Brigadier in the Pakistani army. The love for his daughter clash with his ideals and the Brigadier has to make a choice.
